The banana plant is well known for its edible fruit, which are mainly eaten raw. Bananas contain high levels of minerals as well as vitamins A and C. Their high carbohydrate content makes them a favourite with sports people while the minerals they contain helps in avoiding muscle cramp.
Besides their use as food for humans, bananas provide shelter, building materials and fibre.
