Aechmea dealbata is an epiphyte that originates from Brazil and Paraguay. Being epiphytic means that the plant grows on a tree without parasitizing it such that the host tree acts only as a support for the epiphyte and not as a source of food. However, Aechmea dealbata also grows easily on open ground and therefore is often grown as an ornamental. The flowers are bright red when young turning a light purple when in flower. Aechmea dealbata is very similar to Aechmea fasciata (its closest relative) but is smaller and more graceful.
